Mission Statement The Bismarck-Mandan Convention and Visitors Bureau’s mission is to stimulate economic growth in the community by increasing visitor volume and visitor expenditures. Objective To “sell” the goods and services of our community to visitors. Our mission is accomplished through various methods including direct sales and service, information distribution, advertising, publicity and community relations. History Our Convention and Visitors Bureau is the oldest in North Dakota with 25 years experience in promoting the attributes of our communities. We are a Bismarck-Mandan organization and have found many benefits to selling both communities. Sales and Marketing Sales and marketing is the main purpose of the Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Sales Department is where the sale, promotion and service is initiated and carried out. Our program areas include sales of: meetings and conventions, group tours, general tourism, events and sports tournaments. Operation The Convention and Visitors Bureau is a private, non-profit organization. The primary funding source for the Bureau is the 2 percent lodging tax revenue generated through rental of our local hotel sleeping rooms. Our Convention and Visitors Bureau uses 87 percent of this to fund our programs. The remaining 10 percent goes to the Bismarck Civic Center and the Mandan Community Center with the final 3 percent going to the state for tax administration costs. Membership Membership plays a large part in the successful operation of the Bismarck-Mandan Convention and Visitors Bureau. It is our belief that the more businesses we have involved in the CVB, the more successful and effective we can be in contributing to the well being of our economy.
